Nationwide Sting Highlights Law Enforcement Officials’ Focus on Sex Crimes

Sex crimes used to be almost invisible to the general public, and this lack of visibility often resulted in sex crime offenders feeling their activities were also largely invisible. A recent large-scale raid conducted by the FBI against pimps in California serves as a reminder that sex crimes are now on the radar of city, state, and federal law enforcement officials. Here are the details of the operation against pimps and criminal sex traffickers.

In late July, the FBI, along with local and state law enforcement agencies launched an initiative against alleged sex crime offenders in 76 cities across the country, including a handful of cities in California. 28 arrests were made in California, alone.

The arrest initiative was part of a 10-year campaign that has lead to the arrest of more than 1,300 criminal sex offenders. Arrested pimps are often surprised to learn that a conviction can lead to not just a few years in jail, but life in prison or decades of imprisonment followed by inclusion on the sex offender registry.

If you have been charged with pimping, sexual assault, rape, indecent exposure or any other sex crime in Irvine, California or anywhere in Orange County, California, you likely face the possibility of life-changing criminal penalties. Don’t gamble with your future by talking to police, accepting a plea or obtaining legal help from anyone except for an experienced defense attorney with a record of achieving reduced or dismissed charges. Contact Irvine, California sex crime defense attorney Mark R. McDonald.
